LONDON — Arsenal will compensate fans who traveled to Old Trafford to witness a rout by paying for a future away match ticket.

Arsenal conceded the most goals in a game since the 19th century in the 8-2 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger began plotting Monday how to turn around the beleaguered team’s fortunes during the two-week international break. The thrashing left Arsenal with just one point after three matches of the Premier League season.

Wenger says “the players go away for two weeks and maybe that is a good thing … big scores are humiliating and difficult to swallow.”

Captain Robin van Persie says Arsenal can’t “hide behind injuries or suspensions. It is no excuse.”
