Pathik Root of ripton is a student at Middlebury College. He is studying Arabic in Damascus and he was taken by Syrian authorities and now he was released to the American ambassador and was in good health. U.S Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-VT said that it is a good day. He is the one who pressed the Syrian officials for the release of Root. Two American were detained at the outbreak of political unrest in Syria and the 21 year old Root was the one among them and the other one was a 32 year old by the name Mohammed Radwan who is an engineer and he was also released on Friday. According to the state run agency Radwan who is from Austin, Texas was suspected of selling video and photos of the demonstrations to a Columbian woman. Imad Moustapha the Syria’s ambassador to the U.S called Leahy on Friday and informed that Root has been released from jail. Root spoke with his mother and he could not be reached for comment immediately and he was expected to leave Syria as soon as possible.
On March 18 Root was missing and he communicated with this father on March 16 finally. Tom Root the father of Root told the press that Root started an independent study course in Damascus University a week before he was detained. Root did not respond to the request for comment by the press immediately. It was not clear whether the college student was suspected by the Syrian for wrong doing. Leahy had a telephone conversation with Robert Fort, the U.S Ambassador to Syria and Moustapha during the captivity of Root. Leahy would not say any thing about the detention of Root and the idea of the Syrian officials. There are some rumors going around the place that are very much related to the conversation about Root. Leahy said that he tried to tamp down each one of the rumors they raised. He also said that he must be ale to lay them to rest whatever suspicions they may have had but the wrong time and wrong place is the bottom line. The Middlebury College welcomed the news which is located in Middlebury. The father and the stepmother of Root are the biology professors in that college.
