He’s been gloomy ever since girlfriend Blake Lively jetted back to LA, and Leo DiCaprio really doesn’t seem to be enjoying Sydney without her.
The 36-year-old is filming Baz Luhrmann’s take on The Great Gatsby in the city, and was tempted out on a boat ride in Sydney Harbour yesterday by his co-star in the film, Tobey Maguire.
Maguire, also 36, obviously hoped that the jaunt would offer a slight reprieve from his friend’s love sickness, but the voyage was short-lived.
The former SpiderMan star held tightly to his gorgeous daughter Ruby’s hand as they boarded the boat, as his wife Jennifer Meyer, 34 , followed the five-year-old in the hope of a leisurely afternoon in beautiful surroundings.
DiCaprio, has to be parted from Gossip Girl beauty Lively, 24 , while they work on different continents, but he was joined by the other woman in his life for the jaunt.
Mum Irmelin is no doubt consoling her son and reminding him that Blake has to work on the CW show in New York, while he fulfills his commitments.
And she’ll be proud of the way he took a paternal interest in Ruby, gently helping his friend’s little girl aboard the vessel.
Wearing his trademark baseball cap, T-shirt and board shorts, Leo still appeared to be in a lugubrious frame of mind.
And the group returned to the wharf after just a short trip.
DiCaprio seems to be struggling Down Under, he moved from his $35,000 a month rental in Vaucluse after just a few weeks because he didn’t like the property, and then of course, his girl isn’t there.
Blake visited Australia to spend time with her beau at the end of August.
They were spotted enjoying an intimate dinner at Aria, which overlooks the city’s harbour and visited the Featherdale Wildlife Park.
A spokesman for the park said they met Austin the koala, a dingo pup called Nala and an unnamed saltwater croc, as well as Cuddles the python, a baby wombat and a Tasmanian Devil.
They spent an hour at the park mingling with other tourists.
Leo wore a baseball cap and Blake wore a hat to spot them being recognised by too many visitors.
A park spokesman said: ‘The pair seemed really happy in each other’s company and there was no diva-like behaviour from either of them.’
The spokesman, talking about the pair’s visit, also added: ‘On Monday afternoon we received a phone call requesting a private guided tour for a VIP group.
We do these quite often for international visitors so it wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary and we weren’t advised who would be visiting.
‘It was quite a nice surprise to see Leo and Blake arrive.
‘They both loved the koalas and spent quite a bit of time with Austin, one of our younger koalas.
