Olympians Turned Celebrities: 12 Athletes Known For More Than Sports

The 2012 London Olympics are officially underway and we can’t wait to see which athletes will take home bronze, silver and gold medals this year — and which stars will make their way into the pop culture lexicon.

There are many Olympic athletes who have gone on to become celebrities and pop culture icons, and we can’t include them all, we’ve picked out 12 shining stars who have gone from unknown athletes to world-renowned superstars and celebrities.

Thanks to “Dancing With the Stars,” a few medal winners have added the coveted mirror ball trophies to their prize rack, while others have worked their way into Hollywood.

And then there’s Tonya Harding.
